The shoulder box comprises of 3 parts, a tray, a shoulder ( which fits into the tray) and removable lid. The tray and lid are made of equal length and width and enables the base and lid to fit flush with one another. The tray is made higher to hold the lid flush or expose the shoulder if the design is required. Additional design options is a shoulder box with a hinged side or angled sides. With larger boxes, a ribbon is added to hold the lid upright, which is called a hold ribbon.
Non exposed shoulder box is where the base and lid are held on the shoulder to fit together seamlessly.
Exposed shoulder box is where the shoulder is made higher to keep part of the shoulder exposed. The shoulder tray is then covered with a contrasting colour which enhances this design feature.
